Jim Jordan will take on education secretary Joe Biden as the former president considers the appointment, the White House announced on Monday.
“In a matter of days, President Biden has made a decision that will shape the future of our country and the future for millions of Americans,” Biden said in a statement.
“Jim is a smart, hardworking, and experienced executive who understands the importance of education to our economy and the middle class.
We thank Jim for his service and look forward to working together to build a better tomorrow.”
In the statement, the president noted that the appointment of a new secretary of education would create an opportunity for a new president to appoint a secretary of labor or a new ambassador to China.
Biden had previously been the top candidate for the job, but was not interested in taking the job.
